Splitting Wood

In Ramblings on November 9, 2006 by Cody McComas

I spent most of the afternoon today splitting firewood. The feel of the smooth hickory handle of the splitting mall in your hands. The heavy thud and crack of the wood. The smell of freshly chopped wood. The crispness of the air that you can see your breath in. I love this time of year.

  1. yeah! me too.

  2. There is something singularly rewarding with chopping firewood. “I will go out into nature, subdue it, and bring it here to warm you.” Makes you feel Independent and useful; like a man who can save his own life.

  3. did you see my post on the hilter blog? i TOTALLY agree with this.

  4. wow.. great words. great fall description.
Two things to me which are highly attractive: a man changing the oil on his car and a man chopping wood with his bare naked hands…..
