Importance of Being Really Good at Something.

Lou O’ Bedlam said:

“There’s a point at which you do something you like, a point where you realize you’re actually not half bad at it. You’re good at something. Which I’ve always considered rare, to actually be good at something. I’ve always thought of myself as a jack of all trades, master of none. Which is fine, no worries, but to actually be Good at something, damn fine feeling that starts in your teeth as they inadvertently smile.”

Google (in their, “Ten things Google has found to be true”) said:

“2. It’s best to do one thing really, really well.

Google does search. With one of the world’s largest research groups focused exclusively on solving search problems, we know what we do well, and how we could do it better. Through continued iteration on difficult problems, we’ve been able to solve complex issues and provide continuous improvements to a service already considered the best on the web at making finding information a fast and seamless experience for millions of users.”

My mom (or maybe my brother, or maybe both) said:

“In order to be employable you need to be able to be in a room full of people and look around the room knowing that you have a skill that no one else in that room does.”
